UPDATE: Hobbs Mill and Old Milledgeville Road Repairs Move Forward

Road Closed Update

UPDATE: June 7, 2024

The McDuffie County Board of Commissioners is soliciting competitive sealed bids from qualified contractors for the Road Improvement Project 23-MCD-23 Old Milledgeville Rd & 23-MCD-23 Hobbs Mill Rd projects for the McDuffie County Board of Commissioners.

Bids will be received until 2:00 P.M. on July 11, 2024, at the Office of the Board of Commissioners, 210 Railroad Street, Thomson, Georgia 30824.

At this point, a contractor will be named to move forward the repair of both roads.

UPDATE: April 3, 2024

The bridge replacements on Hobbs Mill and Old Milledgeville roads will proceed soon after McDuffie County received a combination of state funding to help pay for the work. The next step for the project is to solicit bids for the work.

The county received more than $1.2 million in additional funding from the Georgia Department Transportation in recent weeks to help pay for the repairs. The total estimated cost of the work is more than $1.4 million. County Commissioners expect the projects to be completed by the end of the year, including time for bid process, construction and other variables.

Both roads were washed out in March 2023 during a prolonged heavy rainstorm. The planned repair work would allow the roadways to handle a 100-year flood event.

“It’s great we are going to fix those roads and fix them correctly,” said County Commission Chairman Charlie Newton.

In addition, commissioners approved more than $1.2 million in paving projects, including Quail Farm Road, Mattie Harrison Road and Langham Road. The paving will be paid for using Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) funds.
