Thomson-McDuffie County Planning Commission Board
Thomson-McDuffie County Planning Commission
The County Planning Commission Board was created with the adoption of the county’s first Land Use Ordinance in the spring of 1986 and was continued with the adoption of zoning in March of 1999.
The “Board” consists of 6 members total, with two members representing each jurisdiction; McDuffie County, City of Thomson and the Town of Dearing.
The primary purpose of the Board is to conduct zoning hearings on applications for zoning changes, conditional use reviews, variance of ordinance provisions, subdivision review, text amendments, and appeals of zoning violations. Upon conclusion of the zoning hearing a Board recommendation is forwarded to the respective governing body for final review and disposition.
The Board of Commissioners or City of Thomson takes the final action on matters presented to them, based on information from the public hearing, the recommendation of the Planning Commission and discussion in the meeting(s).
